A "literary" prize for Air Liquide

13/11/2007
A team of Air Liquide, in association with the CRTBT of Grenoble and the Institute for Space Astrophysics of Paris, won the first prize of the review Cryogenics for a publication concerning the Planck project.

It's the best publication of the year! So say publishers in Europe, Asia, and the United States of the International review Cryogenics, THE benchmark review in the low temperature technology sector. "Design and performance of the dilution cooler system for the Planck mission", written by Sébastien Triqueneaux and Louis Sentis of DTA, with Philippe Camus and Alain Benoît of the Very Low Temperature Research Centre (CRTBT) at Grenoble and Guy Guyot of the Institute for Space Astrophysics in Paris, has in fact been awarded the first prize in Cryogenics. This prize was presented on the occasion of the CEC-ICEC (Cryogenic Engineering Conference-International Cryogenic Material Conference), held in Chattanooga in the United States. The article describes how the system for cooling the Planck Mission detectors, which set out to "see into the depths of the Universe", was designed and developed. This prize is a wonderful example of collaboration between a manufacturer, a research laboratory and a professional body,” Alain Ravex of Air Liquide says proudly. This same work won another prize recently: the prize for best industrial development of the year, awarded by the Journal "L’Usine Nouvelle".
