Air Liquide has developed comprehensive OBOGS and OBIGGS systems on the Czech L159 fighter and training aircraft programme.
The L159 is a multi-purpose fighter and training aircraft developed by the Czech plane-maker Aero Vodochody to replace the L-39 Albatros. The programme started in 1992 under the name ALCA (Advanced Light Combat Aircraft) and the first flight took place in 1997.
There are 3 versions of the L159 in existence: a single-seater version L159A and 2 two-seater versions L159B and L159T1. 72 of these have been produced since 1998 for the Czech army. The ceiling altitude is 43,000 feet (13,200 m) and upgrade capacities +8 Gz.
Air Liquide has used its competences as main system manufacturer to provide Aero Vodochody with global recommendations (aircraft integration, technical systems specifications) to meet flight crew oxygen activation needs and tank inerting needs from knowledge of aircraft circuit characteristics.
Air Liquide has supplied the OBOGS system on board the L159s (oxygen concentrator, oxygen and anti-G regulator, plane seat connector, emergency source, junction plate) and the OBIGGS system.
The systems designed and manufactured by Air Liquide have represented a crucial technological advance given the low supply pressure available on the aircraft.
Our technology of electronically controlled motorized valves has made it possible to withstand the low pressure on board the L159 and to reach the performance levels specified by the plane-maker: percentage oxygen supplied by the concentrator, G-suit pressurization time and altimeter overpressure guaranteed by the regulator.
